Michelle Smith
is a Regional Director for The Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts as well as
being a holder of the Certified Divorce Financial Analyst credentials. She is also a
Certified Financial Planner (CFP), a Divorce Mediator, and her background includes 18
years of extensive expertise in financial planning and investment management. She is
recognized and respected for her focus on guiding clients through the financial transition
of divorce and is the advisor of choice for many high profile cases. She has been featured
on CNBC, ABC's 'Good Morning, America', Fox's 'Good Day, New York' and has been
quoted frequently in many local and national newspapers and magazines. In 2005, she was
commissioned by Wachovia Securities to co-author a book for their financial advisors and
clients titled Divorce & Your Finances.
Michelle is a regularly contributing columnist
for the American Journal of Family Law publication.
She lectures frequently to the legal and judicial
community, and created a Practice Management paper for the American Bar Association titled
Lifestyle Analysis Preparation. In April 2007 she presented a course to the Family Law
section of the American Bar Association called "Special Needs: Special Planning"
which educated the legal community about the financial issues needing special care if a
divorce involves a special needs child.
Michelle is President of Smith Divorce Financial
Strategies Group in New York City and the Co-Founder and Senior Managing Director of
Family Wealth Management for Alexandra & James Co., also in New York City, a Wealth
Management boutique serving clients with between $2 million and $30 million in net worth.
